CHESHIRE, CT — Local officials have announced that two key infrastructure projects will get underway in Cheshire next week, bringing improvements to pedestrian safety and neighborhood accessibility while ensuring reliable road access for residents.

The town confirmed that work on the Lakeview Avenue culvert will begin on or about July 14, 2025, with construction expected to last for about 90 days. According to the official notice:
“Construction for improvements to the culvert located on Lakeview Avenue is anticipated to begin on or about July 14, 2025, with a duration of 90 days. Improvements to the culvert are intended to provide additional safeguards to help prevent both pedestrian and vehicle accidents.”
Lakeview Avenue is the sole route in and out for residents living on Lakeview Avenue, Andrew Avenue, and Larson Avenue, so maintaining access throughout the project is a priority. Residents with questions or concerns are encouraged to contact the Department of Engineering at 203-271-6650 or by email at DPWengineering@cheshirect.gov.

In addition, the town will break ground on new sidewalk extensions and upgrades along portions of Marion Road and Jarvis Street, beginning July 14 with a projected timeline of 60 days.
“The sidewalk extensions and upgrades are intended to create connectivity of existing sidewalks and to provide a safe pedestrian route to the future school from nearby neighborhoods,” the notice stated.
Officials say this work will help link neighborhoods to the site of a planned new school, improving walkability and pedestrian safety for students and families. As with the culvert project, access to all homes will be maintained.
Community Benefits
These upgrades are part of the town’s broader push to modernize its local infrastructure, with a focus on safer routes for walkers and drivers alike. The improvements aim to reduce flooding risks, boost traffic safety on busy residential routes, and create better pedestrian connections for families.
Residents may see detours or temporary lane restrictions during the work periods, and are encouraged to plan ahead and follow any posted signage.
