Reaching the structural topping-out stage moves a major campus facility into its next phase of construction, allowing crews to shift toward enclosure and interior build-out. Clark Construction has reached that milestone on Rice University's new Moody Center Complex for Student Life in Houston.
The topping-out ceremony took place Aug. 7, marking completion of the structural framework for the four-story facility.
The 70,000-square-foot project is being developed as a student and community hub within the Rice University campus. Clark Construction coordinated construction crews and trade partners to complete the structural phase in the active campus environment.
With the building's frame complete, construction activities will transition toward enclosing the structure and developing its interior spaces.
The facility is planned to include offices, classrooms, meeting rooms and a cafe, providing space for student activities as well as administrative and academic functions.
The next phase will focus on building enclosure and interior construction. The project remains scheduled for a fall 2027 opening.
The facility is intended to provide a centralized location for student interaction, meetings and campus services, expanding the university's student-oriented facilities.
For construction teams working on active higher-education campuses, reaching the structural milestone also allows work to progress toward interior trades while maintaining coordination with ongoing campus operations.
The Rice University project illustrates the construction sequencing involved in delivering new student facilities within an operating university environment. With structural work complete, Clark Construction can advance enclosure and interior activities toward the planned 2027 opening, while Rice University moves closer to adding a new 70,000-square-foot student-focused facility to its campus.
