The College of Coastal Georgia has launched a $16 million expansion of its Miriam and Hugh Nunnally Hall in Brunswick, aimed at enhancing its School of Nursing and Health Sciences.

The project will significantly increase space for clinical education, including the addition of nine simulation rooms in a new Simulation Center. Specialized spaces will also include a labor and delivery room with an infant care area, a medical-surgical room, an operating room, and five ICU rooms.
The expansion will more than double the number of beds in the nursing skills labs—from 15 to 40—allowing for increased student capacity and more comprehensive training.
Lydia Watkins, dean of the School of Nursing and Health Sciences, emphasized the importance of the project: “This expansion marks a transformative step forward, significantly enhancing what we can offer to our students.”

The upgraded facility will support enrollment growth not just in nursing but also in radiologic science programs, reflecting a broader push to meet regional demand for healthcare professionals.
With healthcare workforce shortages continuing across the country, the expansion of Nunnally Hall comes at a critical time. College officials say the improvements will allow them to graduate more qualified professionals ready to serve in hospitals, clinics, and other care settings throughout Georgia.
The investment aligns with broader state and national efforts to scale up healthcare education and training infrastructure, particularly in regions where access to medical care is limited.
Watkins added that the enhancements “will provide our students with the type of environment that mirrors real-life medical settings, giving them the confidence and skills needed to succeed in their careers.”
Construction is underway, and the college anticipates the new spaces will be operational in the near future.
