Lane Closures Begin for Wears Creek Bridge Project in Cole County

COLE COUNTY, Mo. – Drivers in Cole County should expect delays as bridge construction over Wears Creek brings periodic lane and intersection closures near the intersection of West Edgewood Drive and Wildwood Drive.

Starting Wednesday and continuing through Thursday, the eastbound driving lane will be closed, with additional closures occurring as crews unload materials.

“There will also be periodic intersection closures as crews unload materials for the new bridge,” according to Cole County Public Works. “The closures are expected to occur during daylight hours.”

The construction is part of the broader Wildwood Drive Extension project aimed at improving connectivity and traffic flow in the area.

More closures are scheduled for next week, running Tuesday through Friday, depending on weather conditions.

“All work is weather permitting, and Cole County Public Works asks the public to avoid these areas and use alternative routes while crews are working,” officials stated.

The County urges drivers to stay alert, plan ahead, and use detours when possible to ensure safety and help maintain traffic flow.

The Wears Creek bridge project is a key element in Cole County’s infrastructure improvement efforts, aiming to modernize critical roadways and enhance emergency and commuter access in a fast-growing corridor.

The Wildwood Drive Extension project has been under development to ease congestion and provide alternative east-west routes in the southern part of Jefferson City. Once completed, it is expected to improve not only local travel times but also access for emergency services and school transportation.

Cole County Public Works continues to emphasize safety during the construction period, reminding drivers that delays are temporary but necessary for long-term road upgrades. Signage and detours will be posted as needed throughout the project duration.
