Multi-Million Dollar Project Aims to Connect Over 10,000 Homes and Businesses with Next-Gen Network

Comcast Corporation (NASDAQ: CMCSA) has officially launched construction on a major high-speed internet infrastructure project that will span seven counties across Indiana. Announced on May 28, the effort is part of the company’s plan to bring advanced broadband services to underserved and rural communities in Fayette, Rush, Delaware, Boone, Shelby, Morgan, and Miami counties.

The initiative represents a multi-million dollar investment, with the goal of connecting more than 10,000 residents and business owners to Comcast’s full suite of services—including gigabit internet, voice, TV, and smart home solutions.

The project is supported through a public-private partnership with the Next Level Connections Broadband Grant Program, Indiana’s statewide initiative to expand reliable broadband access. The state has committed $350 million to close connectivity gaps and promote digital inclusion.

Building on a Strong Technological Foundation

Over the last decade, Comcast has significantly scaled its broadband footprint nationwide, investing more than $80 billion into its fiber-rich network infrastructure. In Indiana alone, the company has contributed approximately $600 million over the past three years to expand and upgrade its local network.

The new construction will build upon Comcast’s existing infrastructure, which already includes 49,000 miles of fiber-rich network lines and over 65,500 public WiFi hotspots available across the state.

In addition to physical network expansion, Comcast has also championed digital equity through its Internet Essentials program, launched in 2011. The initiative offers low-cost, high-speed internet service and discounted laptops to qualifying low-income families. To date, more than 772,000 Indiana residents have gained internet access through the program.

Driving Economic Opportunity and Connectivity

This broadband development isn’t just about faster downloads—it’s also about economic resilience, digital education, and workforce competitiveness in Indiana’s small towns and rural regions.

“This initiative brings transformative technology to areas that have been historically underserved. It’s about more than internet access—it’s about expanding opportunity for Indiana families and businesses,” said a Comcast spokesperson. “We’re proud to partner with the state through Next Level Connections and look forward to seeing the long-term impact of this project.”

As broadband access becomes increasingly critical for everything from remote work and telehealth to virtual classrooms and online commerce, Comcast’s investment is poised to benefit Hoosiers across multiple dimensions of daily life.

The infrastructure being deployed in these seven counties is designed to support multi-gigabit speeds, low latency, and future scalability—ensuring the network is capable of meeting the evolving demands of residents and enterprises for years to come.
