Workforce development remains a critical consideration for construction companies seeking to maintain consistent project performance as teams expand. Commodore Builders has received national recognition for its approach to employee training and professional development through its Commodore Academy learning platform.
Commodore Academy serves as a companywide learning platform providing training, resources and development opportunities for employees working in both field and office roles.
The platform includes role-specific materials, company standards, onboarding resources and professional development content. Learn Amp partnered with Commodore Builders in developing the learning experience platform used to deliver and track employee learning.
The program was established around six core qualities identified by Commodore Builders: taking charge, anticipating needs, focusing on details, collaborating, innovating and problem-solving.
Carol Roby, dean of Commodore Academy, and Frank Cotton, learning and development manager, led development of the program with support from employees across the organization and Learn Amp. Dena Wolfs, talent and culture associate, contributed to the award submission.
The Brandon Hall Group HCM Excellence Awards evaluated entries across areas including business needs, program design and delivery, adoption, user experience, innovation, effectiveness and measurable results.
Commodore Builders was awarded Gold in the Best Advance in Corporate Learning category.
Formal learning platforms can give construction organizations a structured way to support onboarding, skills development and knowledge transfer across field and office teams. For contractors, consistent access to training can also support workforce retention and help establish common operating standards as project teams and business operations grow.
