Chewters Chocolates, based in Delta, British Columbia, is set to break ground on a $20.5 million chocolate factory in Rockwall, Texas, starting in January 2023. The facility will include four production lines, a retail store, and offer tours. Chewters plans to invest $40 million in the project, creating 120 new jobs, and will produce its organic Chocxo brand at the new plant.

The 225,000-square-foot factory will be located at 2911 Discovery Blvd. in the Rockwall Technology Park, as noted in a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Construction is expected to start in January 2023, with the project aiming for completion by mid-2026.

Originally announced in 2022, the new factory will house four chocolate production lines, a warehouse, office space, and a small retail store. Visitors will also be able to take self-guided tours featuring glass viewing halls.

Chewters Chocolates, founded in 1984, is known for its organic, low-sugar chocolate brand, Chocxo, which includes nut butter cups, bars, squares, filled chocolates, and more.

The company has previously stated it will invest over $40 million in the facility and hire 120 workers.

"The ChocXO project breaking ground is a great Christmas present for the Rockwall community," said Phil Wagner, President of the Rockwall Economic Development Corporation. "This Canadian manufacturer will be a fantastic addition to the world leaders that are already in the Rockwall Technology Park across various industries."
