Construction is officially underway on Coffeetree Country Club, a new private golf facility taking shape in Elkhorn, Nebraska, marking the revival of a course site that has been dormant for nearly two decades.

The development replaces the former Skyline Woods Country Club, which closed in 2005 after a series of financial and legal challenges. The redesigned course will be led by seven-time PGA Tour winner and Golf Channel analyst Peter Jacobsen, who is overseeing the transformation of the property.

Jacobsen’s plan includes the creation of five brand-new holes while retaining 13 holes that closely resemble the original Skyline Woods layout, according to a report by KMTV 3NewsNow in Omaha. The project represents Jacobsen’s first design venture in the upper Midwest, expanding a portfolio that includes courses in Texas and California.

Local residents say the redevelopment is a welcome change after years of neglect at the property.

“You hate to see something in a nicer part of town run down, if you will, and so it'd be nice to see it come back to its former glory,” Alex Beckwith, who grew up playing Skyline Woods, told KMTV.

The Skyline Woods property has a long and complicated history. Dennis Circo and his father originally purchased the course in the 1960s before selling it to American Golf Corporation in 1990. Over the next 15 years, the course passed through four different owners and ultimately filed for bankruptcy before shutting down permanently in 2005.

The abandoned site later became the subject of a Nebraska Supreme Court case stemming from a dispute between a homeowners association and one of the course’s former owners. Despite redevelopment efforts announced in 2023 by Circo after he repurchased the land, those plans failed to materialize.

Momentum returned in November 2025, when developer Brett Clure acquired the property and moved quickly to begin construction. According to KMTV, nearby residents have expressed strong support for the new ownership and development plan.

“The neighbors that I've talked to really feel strongly that Brett has got the right idea. . . we just couldn't be more thrilled,” said Robyn Vance, a nearby resident.

Once completed, Coffeetree Country Club will feature an 18-hole championship golf course along with a 27,000-square-foot clubhouse. Planned amenities include a restaurant, resort-style swimming pool, golf simulators, tennis courts and dedicated pickleball facilities. Course construction and redevelopment will take place first, with the clubhouse and additional amenities scheduled to follow.

Developers say the project will not only restore a long-vacant property but also reintroduce a premier private golf destination to the western edge of the Omaha metro area, bringing renewed activity and investment to the surrounding community.
