Construction Begins on Glenpool’s New Wastewater Treatment Facility

GLENPOOL, Okla. — A major infrastructure project is officially underway in Glenpool as construction begins on a new small-batch reaction wastewater treatment facility. The facility is designed to replace the current lagoon-style system and will significantly increase the city’s wastewater management capacity.
The new treatment facility is expected to be completed within two years and will effectively double the capacity of the existing system. Local and state officials gathered for a groundbreaking ceremony on Wednesday, celebrating the commencement of this vital project.

Major Investment for Glenpool’s Growth
Officials emphasized the importance of the project in meeting the city’s future needs and supporting its continued growth. Senator Brian Guthrie commended city leadership for making the project a reality.
“Breaking ground on this new wastewater treatment facility is a major step forward for Glenpool. This investment will support growth, improve infrastructure, and ensure the city can meet future needs. I applaud the leadership of Mayor Calvert and the Glenpool staff and City Council. They have worked hard to make this project possible—it's a win for the entire community,” Guthrie said.
The project comes with a price tag of $66 million, a substantial portion of which—$44 million—is being provided through federal funding. The remaining costs will be financed through a low-interest loan from the Oklahoma Water Resources Board. According to city officials, this financing approach will save local residents millions of dollars over the lifespan of the project.
Mayor Tim Calvert underscored the significance of securing federal funds to support Glenpool’s infrastructure improvements.
"I was committed to getting our city's share of the ARPA funds to support the construction of this new facility, which is a crucial step toward enhancing our infrastructure and fostering sustainable development in Glenpool," Calvert stated. "With this investment, we are ensuring that our wastewater management system not only meets current demands but also supports the future growth of our city."
Ensuring Sustainable Development
The new facility is part of a broader effort to modernize Glenpool’s utilities and support both residential and commercial expansion. Senator Todd Gullihare stressed the importance of investing in long-term infrastructure solutions that will benefit the city for years to come.
“This project represents a major investment in the community's infrastructure, ensuring the responsible management of wastewater, the protection of our waterways, and the support of future growth for the city,” Gullihare said. “As Glenpool continues to expand, it is essential that we modernize our utilities to meet the needs of residents and businesses. We appreciate the collaboration from all stakeholders who have worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition.”
With construction now underway, Glenpool residents can expect an upgraded wastewater treatment system that will not only enhance efficiency but also promote environmental sustainability. The city’s commitment to improving its infrastructure is a clear indication of its dedication to supporting future growth while maintaining essential public services.
