WEYMOUTH, Mass. — A construction crane tipped over Thursday in Weymouth, Massachusetts, prompting emergency response but fortunately resulting in no injuries, according to local authorities.

The incident occurred near Legion Memorial Field along Commercial Street, a busy area not far from residential neighborhoods and community recreation space. Aerial footage from Sky 5 captured the dramatic scene showing the large crane lying on its side, its arm sprawled across the work site.

“Weymouth police said no one was injured during the incident,” reassuring residents that despite the crane's size and proximity to a public area, there were no casualties or damage to nearby buildings.

The crane was reportedly part of an ongoing construction project, although officials have not yet disclosed the nature of the work being performed. Witnesses in the area described a loud crashing sound and a sudden commotion as first responders rushed to the scene to assess the situation and secure the area.

“It was a really loud noise, like something collapsed,” said one local resident who lives near the park. “When I looked outside, I saw the crane on its side and police already showing up.”

The cause of the tip-over remains under investigation. “It is not yet clear what caused the crane to tip over,” officials said. Engineers and site supervisors are expected to work with occupational safety investigators to determine whether equipment failure, unstable ground, or operational error contributed to the accident.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) has been notified and is likely to conduct a formal review, as is standard practice following construction equipment incidents.

Nearby traffic was briefly rerouted, and a section of the construction site has been cordoned off while crews begin cleanup and assess the stability of the surrounding area. No timeline has been provided for when construction will resume.

Although no injuries occurred, the incident has sparked concerns among residents about the safety of heavy machinery operations near populated areas. City officials said they will review permitting and oversight procedures related to the site.
