Construction Partners Inc. is mourning the death of Michael H. McKay, a longtime board member who contributed more than two decades of investment, financial and governance experience to the civil infrastructure company. McKay died in an accident on July 22, 2026, at the age of 64.

More Than Two Decades on Construction Partners’ Board

McKay joined Construction Partners’ Board of Directors in 2002 and later became a member of the Audit Committee in 2008. During his tenure, he provided financial and investment expertise as the company expanded its operations across the Sunbelt.

His professional career included more than three decades at Bain & Company, where he joined in 1987 and helped establish the firm's Private Equity Group. He also held senior investment positions and served as a lecturer at Brandeis International Business School.

Financial and Governance Experience

McKay’s background covered public and private market investments, corporate leadership and academic work. He served as chief investment officer of a Washington, D.C.-based principal investment firm and was managing partner of a Boston-based hedge fund from 2006 to 2009.

He also served on the boards of Big Outdoor Holdings LLC and Hubbardton Forge LLC. Beyond his professional activities, McKay supported cancer research through long-distance cycling fundraising events.

Construction Partners Plans Permanent Tribute

Construction Partners said McKay’s experience and guidance contributed to the company’s governance and strategic decision-making. The company will dedicate its boardroom at its headquarters in his name.

Construction Partners operates a vertically integrated civil infrastructure business across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee and Texas. Its work includes roadways, highways, airport runways, bridges and private-sector paving and sitework.
