Construction Set to Begin on Sinks Canyon Suspension Bridge in April

LANDER, WY — Visitors to Sinks Canyon State Park should prepare for changes beginning later this month, as Wyoming State Parks has announced a month-long construction project on the popular suspension bridge located in the Popo Agie Campground. The bridge will be closed to the public starting April 21, 2025, to allow for important repairs and upgrades.

Park officials say the project is part of a broader effort to maintain and enhance infrastructure in the beloved recreation area, which draws thousands of visitors each year for hiking, camping, fishing, and scenic views.
"We understand that the suspension bridge is a popular feature of Sinks Canyon State Park, but these improvements are vital for the long-term safety of our guests," said Jessica Moore, superintendent of Sinks Canyon State Park. "We appreciate the public's understanding and patience as we work to enhance the park."
During the estimated month-long closure, the suspension bridge will be completely inaccessible. However, alternative trails and routes throughout the park will remain open, allowing visitors to continue exploring the canyon’s natural beauty.
The construction work will take place Monday through Friday, between 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., and parkgoers should anticipate typical construction-related activity such as noise from generators and equipment. A construction dumpster will also be placed in the campground parking lot, potentially affecting parking availability in the area.
Sinks Canyon’s suspension bridge is one of the park’s most iconic features, offering access across the Popo Agie River and connecting popular trails on both sides. Officials note that the repairs are intended to preserve the bridge’s integrity and ensure it can continue to safely serve visitors for years to come.
Updates on construction progress and any changes to the closure schedule will be posted on the park’s official Facebook page at @SinksCanyonStatePark.
