Highlights

  • Crescent Constructors was selected for the Prairie Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant expansion in Lewisville, Texas.
  • The project will raise treatment capacity from 12 million to 16 million gallons per day.
  • Work includes aeration basin expansion, rehabilitation of existing treatment infrastructure and construction of a new blower building.
  • Construction will occur while the facility remains operational, with phased work planned to limit service disruptions.
  • Completion is scheduled for November 2028.

Growing municipalities across North Texas continue to advance wastewater infrastructure upgrades as population growth increases demand on public utility systems. Crescent Constructors, an affiliate of Zachry Construction Corporation, has been awarded a contract by the city of Lewisville to expand the Prairie Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant.

The project is intended to increase treatment capacity and improve operational reliability as Lewisville prepares for long-term residential and commercial growth.

Project Scope

The expansion program will increase the facility’s operating capacity from 12 million gallons per day to 16 million gallons per day. The work represents the first stage of a broader long-range plan targeting eventual treatment capacity of 20 million gallons per day.

Construction activities include expansion of the plant’s aeration basin system, demolition of an older section of the facility and development of a new blower building. The contract also includes rehabilitation work on the headworks, existing aeration basins and the return activated sludge and waste activated sludge building.

Additional upgrades will cover associated piping systems, electrical infrastructure, controls integration and site improvements.

Construction Phasing and Delivery

Because the wastewater treatment plant will remain in operation during construction, Crescent Constructors will coordinate phased work activities to maintain treatment operations throughout the project.

The delivery approach includes planned shutdown coordination, supplier integration and sequencing of electrical and controls work intended to minimize disruptions at the active facility.

Final completion is scheduled for Nov. 28, 2028.

North Texas Water Infrastructure Activity

Municipal utility providers throughout Texas have continued to invest in water and wastewater infrastructure upgrades as expanding development activity places additional pressure on aging systems and treatment capacity.

The Lewisville project also reflects continued growth in water infrastructure construction operations for Crescent Constructors following its 2025 affiliation with Zachry Construction Corporation. Crescent Constructors specializes in municipal and industrial water and wastewater projects, including treatment facilities, storage systems and conveyance infrastructure.

What This Means For Construction Owners

For construction owners and public-sector agencies, the project highlights ongoing demand for phased construction expertise within active utility facilities. Wastewater expansion programs increasingly require contractors capable of maintaining operations while executing complex rehabilitation and capacity upgrades.

The award also underscores sustained infrastructure spending across fast-growing Texas markets, where municipalities continue to prioritize long-term utility capacity and reliability to support future development.
