Denver’s RK Mechanical Moving HQ to Aurora, Adding Nearly 1,800 Jobs

A Colorado construction company that many residents may not know by name is preparing for a major move that will reshape its footprint in the state. RK Mechanical Inc., headquartered in Denver since 1986, will relocate its corporate base to Aurora—a shift that promises to bring nearly 2,000 jobs to Colorado.

RK traces its roots back to 1963, when the business was founded in Pender, Nebraska. More than six decades later, the company has evolved into a multifaceted operation spanning construction, manufacturing, fabrication, and service. Its expertise reaches across mechanical, electrical, steel, water, and energy industries.

The company currently employs about 1,700 workers across Colorado, Utah, Arizona, and New Mexico. According to Sentinel Colorado, RK has been considering a headquarters move for nearly two years, with Aurora emerging as the new hub. Over the next eight years, the company projects it will add 1,786 good-paying jobs in the state.

In a statement, RK emphasized the growth potential of the move:

“We’re projecting to create over 1,700 good-paying jobs over the next eight years, investing heavily in workforce training, and strengthening the communities where our employees live and work.”

Unlike many corporate consolidations that reduce staff, this move is focused on expansion. RK will bring together four of its business units—RK Industries, RK Mechanical, RK Service, and RK Electrical—along with the RK Foundation, into a new 154,000-square-foot facility in Aurora.

Aurora, Colorado’s third-largest city with a population of more than 400,000, will now host one of the state’s largest construction firms. While the city faces challenges such as crime rates above the national average, it remains known for its outdoor recreation, diverse restaurants, and growing economic opportunities.

For Aurora, the arrival of RK’s headquarters represents not just an influx of jobs but also long-term investment in training, community support, and skilled workforce development.
