Rotational Program Combines Field Experience and Training

Developing early-career professionals has become an important workforce strategy as construction companies face ongoing demand for skilled project engineers and future leaders. DPR launched its Builder Development Program in February 2026 to provide new professionals with structured exposure to construction operations.

The 18-month rotational program is designed for early-career construction engineering roles. Participants complete three rotations while working directly with project teams and gaining experience in different aspects of construction delivery.

The program combines field-based learning with structured education and coaching. Participants contribute to active projects while completing additional training alongside their program cohort.

Participants Gain Project Delivery Experience

Rather than relying solely on classroom instruction, the program places participants within project teams where they can contribute to ongoing construction activities. The rotations are intended to build technical knowledge while giving participants a broader understanding of how projects are planned, managed and delivered.

The first cohort began with a kickoff week in Arizona, providing participants with an opportunity to establish relationships with peers and program coaches before continuing their rotations.

Coaching is another component of the program, with experienced DPR personnel supporting participants throughout the 18-month development period. The structure is intended to provide a consistent foundation for professionals beginning careers in construction engineering.

Workforce Development Remains a Construction Priority

Construction firms continue to invest in training and career development as the industry works to attract and retain the next generation of project engineers, managers and field leaders.

Programs that combine classroom learning with active project experience can give early-career professionals exposure to scheduling, coordination, field operations and other elements of project delivery. For contractors, structured development programs can also create a more consistent pipeline of workers who understand company processes and construction standards.

DPR’s Builder Development Program reflects the broader industry emphasis on developing talent internally while giving emerging professionals practical experience on construction projects.
