For electrical contractors and construction companies expanding their use of digital systems, IT leadership has become increasingly important to project delivery, cybersecurity and field operations. Encore Electric has appointed Gerald Williams as director of information technology, placing him in charge of the company’s overall IT strategy and governance.
Williams will oversee the company’s IT department and identify technology opportunities that can improve operations, collaboration and business processes.
Encore Electric’s IT department is organized into three primary teams: Construction Information Technology, Infrastructure Engineering, and Support and Operations.
The Construction Information Technology team develops and supports business technology solutions, including systems used for construction operations. The Infrastructure Engineering team manages networks, servers and other core systems while working on redundant network connectivity, cybersecurity engineering and jobsite technology improvements.
The Support and Operations team handles day-to-day technology needs and manages the company’s help desk.
Williams will coordinate the work of these teams as the company continues to integrate technology into its construction and business operations.
Williams joined Encore Electric in 2023 as an IT project manager after serving 22 years in the U.S. Air Force. During his military career, he worked in munitions systems and led technology initiatives involving ruggedized tablets and computers used in field operations.
He earned an Associate of Applied Science in Munitions Systems and a bachelor’s degree in information technology during his military service.
At Encore Electric, Williams has worked on technology projects and cross-functional initiatives, including the company’s UKG implementation. His new role follows the planned transition of Chief Information Officer Jeff Cann, who is scheduled to leave the organization for a new role outside the company on Oct. 1, 2026.
Construction companies increasingly depend on connected field systems, digital project platforms, cybersecurity infrastructure and reliable communications between jobsites and offices. As technology becomes more closely tied to project execution, dedicated IT leadership can help contractors manage these systems while addressing security, reliability and workforce adoption.
Williams’ appointment places responsibility for these functions under a leader with experience in both technology projects and field-oriented operations.
