WYOMING, MI – Construction is underway on a new 84-unit senior living facility that will bring both assisted living and memory care options to the Grand Rapids metro area. Located at 4051 Del Mar Drive SW in the city of Wyoming, the development is spearheaded by Encore Senior Living, which has been expanding its footprint across the Midwest.

The project officially broke ground in May and is slated for completion by October 2026, according to Kelly Schleif, executive vice president of Ganther Construction, the firm overseeing the build. Schleif confirmed that the project is expected to cost $16 million and span roughly 71,000 square feet once complete.

“This new community will offer high-quality residential care in an environment specifically designed for the physical and emotional well-being of our residents,” Schleif said.

The modern facility will be split into two wings: one dedicated to assisted living and the other to memory care. The assisted living wing will house 52 units, including a mix of studio and one-bedroom apartments. These are tailored for older adults who may require support with everyday tasks such as meals or medication.

“Those are geared more toward seniors who need help with things like meal assistance or medication management,” said Becky Pergande, vice president of sales and marketing for Encore Senior Living.

Each assisted living unit will feature a private bathroom, and even the compact studios will provide space for a bed, seating area, and kitchenette. The one-bedroom options are large enough to comfortably accommodate couples, Pergande said.

The other wing will include 32 memory care units, specially designed for residents experiencing Alzheimer’s or other forms of dementia. These areas will be equipped with additional security and enhanced programming focused on cognitive health and structured engagement.

“The memory care facilities will offer robust activities and programming to help residents structure their days,” Pergande explained.

Beyond private residences, both wings will offer shared amenities including spas, salons, and sun rooms, providing spaces for relaxation and self-care. Residents will also benefit from a library, arts and crafts center, and landscaped courtyards featuring gazebos, Schleif added.

This Wyoming location will mark Encore’s fourth senior living community in Michigan, joining existing properties in Delta, Auburn Hills, and Sterling Heights. The company is known for blending healthcare, hospitality, and a home-like atmosphere in its developments.

According to Pergande, leasing is expected to begin in early fall 2025, and although pricing details are still being finalized, prospective residents can already join a waitlist through Encore Senior Living’s website.

“Our goal is to create a vibrant community where seniors can thrive—physically, socially, and emotionally,” Pergande said.

Local officials have praised the development as a welcome addition to the city’s growing need for senior care housing. With the aging population in Michigan expected to continue rising over the next decade, the facility is poised to serve both immediate and long-term community needs.
