New Athletic Facility Takes Shape at St. Paul’s School

A new indoor sports facility at St. Paul’s School will expand athletic infrastructure at the Concord, New Hampshire, campus, adding specialized courts designed for training and competitive events. Engelberth Construction began work on the project following a groundbreaking ceremony held Sept. 25, 2026.

The development will provide additional space for the school’s squash program and create capacity to host regional and national tournaments. The school currently has more than 90 students participating in squash.

Facility Design Includes 10 Dedicated Courts

Designed by Sasaki Associates, the 17,000-square-foot addition will connect directly to the existing Athletic & Fitness Center. The planned layout includes eight international singles courts and two four-wall glass exhibition courts built to Professional Squash Association World Tour standards.

The exhibition courts will include spectator seating with unobstructed views of the playing areas. The facility will also feature a trophy room highlighting the school’s squash history.

The combination of standard courts and exhibition spaces is intended to support both regular athletic programming and larger competitive events. The project represents an expansion of the school’s existing sports facilities rather than a standalone campus development.

Construction Schedule and Institutional Impact

Engelberth Construction is working with St. Paul’s School and Sasaki Associates on the project, which is scheduled to continue through the end of December 2027. The project team has not disclosed a construction contract value or additional details about procurement and major building systems.

The facility is planned as a long-term investment in school athletics. Squash is scheduled to make its Olympic debut at the 2028 Summer Games, adding international visibility to the sport as institutions develop facilities and programs.

For construction professionals, the project illustrates the specialized planning involved in educational athletic facilities, where court dimensions, spectator sightlines and connections to existing buildings must be coordinated with the overall design. The completed addition is expected to provide St. Paul’s School with expanded capacity for student participation and competitive squash events
