New Fire Station Adds Emergency Response Capacity

EV Construction has completed the new Grand Rapids Fire Department Division Avenue Fire Station, also known as Station No. 10, at 1823 Division Avenue South in Grand Rapids, Michigan. City leaders, firefighters, state legislators, residents and project partners attended the ribbon-cutting ceremony on October 13, marking the facility’s opening after approximately 18 months of construction.

The 18,900-square-foot station represents a $12 million investment in public safety on the city’s south side. EV Construction served as the builder, collaborating with design partner Integrated Architecture and the City of Grand Rapids.

The facility accommodates 18 firefighters, with five crew members on duty each day. Its layout includes three drive-through apparatus bays, private dorm rooms for firefighters working 24-hour shifts, officers’ quarters, a kitchen and dining area, and a dedicated fitness room.

The station’s location between Elm and Rose streets on Division Avenue South was selected to improve emergency response times for the surrounding neighbourhood. City officials expect the facility to serve the community for the next 75 to 100 years.

Bilingual Signage Reflects Community Needs

Station No. 10 is the first fire station in Michigan to feature bilingual signage, reflecting the needs of the community it serves. Its opening during Hispanic Heritage Month also highlighted the city’s focus on making public services more accessible to residents.

The project follows EV Construction’s work on the Kendall Street Fire Station, Station No. 12, which opened in September 2025. That facility was the city’s first new fire station in nearly four decades.

The two projects demonstrate continued investment in Grand Rapids’ emergency response infrastructure. With Station No. 10 now in service, firefighters have updated facilities designed to support readiness, rest and daily operations while serving the surrounding community.
