Highlights

  • Findorff’s virtual design and construction team presented drone-based concrete and façade analysis at the Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas.
  • Aerial imagery and visual overlays help project teams compare field conditions with design information.
  • Applications include vapor barrier inspections, window alignment, façade reviews and slab-edge coordination.
  • Drone technology and laser scanning can support project documentation, quality control, scheduling and safety.

VDC Team Presents Aerial Analysis Methods

Drone data and digital construction tools are helping project teams identify potential issues before they lead to costly field corrections. J.H. Findorff & Son Inc. demonstrated these applications during a presentation at the Commercial UAV Expo in Las Vegas on Sept. 30, 2026.

Findorff’s virtual design and construction (VDC) team members Carter Mahnke and Chris Gibbs presented “Aerial Accuracy: Concrete & Façade Analysis,” explaining how aerial information can support concrete deck pours and exterior façade assessments.

The approach combines visual data with project design information, giving teams another way to assess actual site conditions, coordinate work and document construction progress.

Digital Tools Support Field Coordination

Findorff’s VDC capabilities include laser scanning, coordination lift drawings and drone-generated overlays. These tools can help teams compare installed work with design requirements and identify areas that need further review.

The applications discussed in the presentation included checking vapor barriers, evaluating window alignment and façade conditions, and reviewing slab edges, embeds and sleeve locations. Access to this information can help teams resolve discrepancies earlier and improve communication between field personnel and project stakeholders.

Aerial imagery also provides a visual record that can support project discussions and quality reviews. When integrated into construction coordination, these tools can help teams make decisions using clearer information about existing conditions.

Why It Matters for Construction Delivery

Drone-based analysis and other VDC technologies are becoming useful additions to construction planning and quality management. More accurate site information can help project teams reduce uncertainty, limit rework and keep work aligned with design intent.

For owners and construction teams, the value extends beyond collecting aerial images. Integrating field data into coordination and documentation processes can support better-informed decisions throughout project delivery, with potential benefits for cost, schedule, safety and quality.
