HANCOCK COUNTY, Ind. — Fire crews are investigating after flames broke out at an apartment complex under construction early Tuesday morning.

According to the Sugar Creek Township Fire Department, firefighters were dispatched around 4 a.m. Feb. 24 to the 6800 block of Poetry Place, near Dwight D. Eisenhower Highway in Greenfield.
The fire was first reported by an ambulance transporting a patient to IU Methodist Hospital. Crew members spotted smoke and flames and radioed the situation to the Hancock County 911 Center.
When firefighters arrived, they found active fire conditions at the multi-unit complex, which was still under construction and unoccupied at the time.
Crews worked for multiple hours to bring the blaze under control, successfully containing it to a single unit and preventing further spread throughout the building.
Officials confirmed that no injuries were reported.
Several area departments assisted in battling the fire, including Buck Creek Township, Sugar Creek Township, Greenfield Fire Territory, Vernon Township Fire Department, Fountaintown Volunteer Fire Department, Green Township Fire Department and the Lawrence Fire Department.
The coordinated response helped stabilize the scene and limit structural damage.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Authorities have not yet indicated whether the blaze is believed to be accidental or suspicious.
Because the complex was still being built, officials are also expected to assess construction materials and site conditions as part of the review.
Further updates are expected as investigators determine what sparked the early morning fire.
