First Airport Project with Port of Seattle Framework Targets LEED Gold

Caroline Raffetto

Turner Construction Company has reached a major milestone on the $260 million C Concourse Expansion at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA), marking the completion of the steel topping out and the end of vertical construction.

The 226,000 square foot, six-story expansion project, which will add four levels to the existing structure, is designed to enhance the passenger experience. The upper floors will feature expanded dining and retail options, additional seating, and a 1,300 square foot expansion to the passenger waiting area. Other notable features include a rooftop photovoltaic array, a meditation room, a nursing room, and two airfield observation decks.

This is the first project at SEA to adopt the Port of Seattle’s Sustainable Evaluation Framework, ensuring the expansion aligns with the Port’s Century Agenda sustainability goals. Initially aiming for LEED Silver certification, the project is on track to secure LEED Gold certification, thanks to its energy-efficient systems and sustainable design elements.

“We are proud to celebrate the topping out of this transformative project at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport,” said Bill Ketcham, Vice President and General Manager at Turner Construction Company. “This milestone reflects the dedication of our team and partners, including our collaboration with the Port of Seattle, and underscores our shared commitment to sustainability. This project exemplifies how we can construct essential infrastructure that benefits both travelers and the environment.”

The expansion is expected to be substantially completed by 2026.
