Five Workers Hurt in Turning Stone Construction Accident

VERONA, N.Y. — Five construction workers were injured Tuesday afternoon following an industrial accident at a construction site on the Turning Stone campus, prompting a large emergency response and an ongoing investigation into the cause.

According to officials, the incident occurred just before 4 p.m. along Patrick Road in Verona while crews were working at the site. Emergency responders from multiple agencies — including the Verona Fire Department, Vineall Ambulance, Vernon Fire Department, Westmoreland Fire Department, Oneida County Emergency Services and New York State Police — were dispatched to the scene.

Incident Occurred During Elevator Removal

In an updated statement released Tuesday evening, Turning Stone officials said the accident happened during a specific phase of construction work.

"Earlier today, in the course of removing a construction elevator, an incident occurred injuring five construction workers.
All five construction workers are conscious and have been taken to local hospitals. We are continuing to investigate what caused this to occur.
Multiple local emergency units responded to the scene, and we are grateful for their quick response and support."

Ambulances were seen lined up near the construction area as injured workers were transported for medical treatment. Authorities confirmed that all five workers were conscious at the time they were taken to hospitals.

Turning Stone, Oneida Indian Nation Respond

Earlier in the day, Turning Stone Enterprises acknowledged the situation and said it was coordinating with first responders.

Joel Barkin, vice president for communications at Turning Stone Enterprises, said:

"We are aware of an incident that occurred earlier today at a construction site on our campus involving multiple injuries.

Emergency responders are on the scene, and we are working closely with emergency personnel to support their response.

We will provide additional information when it becomes available."

Officials have not yet released details on the severity of the injuries or identified the workers involved.

Officials Say All Injured Workers Were Conscious, Investigation Underway

The cause of the accident remains under investigation. Officials have not indicated whether work at the site has been suspended or when additional updates may be released.

Authorities said more information will be provided as it becomes available.
