City of Bend officials said the completed work was designed to improve overall safety and accessibility along the corridor. Enhancements included widened sidewalks, the construction of new sidewalk segments where gaps previously existed and roadway improvements aimed at creating a safer environment for pedestrians, cyclists and motorists alike. The project reflects the city’s broader emphasis on creating more walkable, connected streets.

Although traffic is now moving through the completed section, the project is not entirely finished. City officials noted that construction crews are expected to return in the spring to complete final landscaping, including planting and streetscape improvements. Additional pavement resurfacing may also be evaluated at that time to ensure the roadway meets long-term performance and safety standards.

Work along Franklin Avenue will continue eastward in the coming months. The next phase of construction will extend from Harriman Street to Northeast Fourth Street, with construction between Northeast First Street and Northeast Fourth Street expected to begin in February. While the city plans to maintain two-way traffic throughout the next phase, drivers should anticipate intermittent delays as crews work near travel lanes and intersections.

Officials encouraged motorists to remain alert in construction zones and to allow extra time for travel, particularly during peak commuting hours. Pedestrians and cyclists are also advised to follow posted signage and detours as work progresses.

The Franklin Avenue improvements are part of ongoing infrastructure investments across Bend aimed at supporting growth, improving mobility and enhancing safety on major corridors. As population and traffic volumes continue to increase, city leaders have prioritized upgrades that balance vehicle access with pedestrian-friendly design and long-term infrastructure resilience.
