Gilbane and William M. Davies, Jr. Career & Technical High School have broken ground on a 48,000-square-foot expansion designed to modernize career and technical education facilities in Lincoln, Rhode Island.
The first phase of the project includes a new addition and renovations to the school's existing 1970s wing. Gilbane is providing design-build services, with construction planned around the school's ongoing academic and technical programs.
The Phase I expansion will provide dedicated learning environments for Davies' Health Careers, Electrical & Renewable Energy and Pre-Engineering programs. The project will also include CTE administrative offices, an art classroom and a large collaboration and seminar space.
The project will replace the school's detached modular Health Careers building with new learning spaces. A secure main entrance will be added for visitors, while a secondary entrance will provide community access to the gym for after-school programs and events.
Flexible technical laboratories are also planned to accommodate changes in technical programs and workforce requirements over time.
Construction will be phased to allow students and staff to continue using the campus during the project. Gilbane will coordinate access to school facilities while maintaining life-safety and building security systems throughout construction.
The construction team will also coordinate with first responders as work progresses. The project is currently scheduled for completion in January 2028.
The expansion adds modern career-training space to Davies Career & Technical High School while supporting continued instruction during construction. For K-12 owners and contractors, the project demonstrates the coordination required to deliver major school renovations and additions while maintaining daily campus operations.
