New Headquarters to Consolidate Police and Fire Operations

Modernizing emergency services infrastructure is the focus of a new municipal construction project in Romulus, Michigan, where a centralized facility is planned to accommodate police and fire operations. Gilbane Building joined city officials, first responders and community members on Oct. 9 to mark the project's groundbreaking.

The 77,000-square-foot headquarters is intended to provide purpose-built space for emergency response and departmental operations. Consolidating services in one location will support coordination between the city's public safety departments.

Facility Design and Operational Space

The building program includes a four-bay apparatus station, dedicated areas for police and fire personnel, training and fitness facilities, a community gathering area and expanded parking. These components are designed to accommodate the operational and personnel needs of both departments.

The project will replace facilities currently located in a school building that is approximately 100 years old. The new construction will provide infrastructure specifically configured for public safety services rather than relying on an older educational facility.

Investment in Municipal Emergency Infrastructure

The Romulus project illustrates how municipalities are investing in dedicated facilities to accommodate emergency response operations and public service needs. For public-sector owners and construction teams, the development involves coordinating specialized departmental requirements, vehicle accommodation, training space and shared facilities within a single building.

The new headquarters is planned to support police and fire operations around the clock, giving the city a consolidated facility for emergency services.
