Leadership Transition Scheduled for Year-End

Leadership continuity at a major construction and real estate development business is set to guide its next phase of operations as Gilbane, Inc. CEO Ed Broderick prepares to retire at the end of 2026.

The announcement, made Oct. 16, comes after 44 years of service across the organisation. Gilbane said its existing executive leadership team will continue in place, with no changes announced to the leadership of its principal operating businesses.

Adam Jelen will continue overseeing Gilbane Building as president and CEO, while James Patchett will remain president and CEO of Gilbane Development. Rob Dillard will continue as chief financial officer of Gilbane, Inc.

The leadership plan follows three consecutive years of record performance and the introduction of a corporate strategy focused on delivering services across the built environment.

Broderick’s Career Across Construction and Development

Broderick began his career as a labourer before joining Gilbane Building as a management trainee. Over more than four decades, he held roles spanning construction and development, operations, engineering, contracts and finance.

He also served in multiple senior leadership positions, including president and CEO of Gilbane Development, before becoming CEO of Gilbane, Inc. His most recent role involved working with the board and executive team during a generational transition in the family-owned business.

Gilbane has operated as a family-owned organisation since 1870. Its integrated operations span real estate investment, development, construction and property and facilities management.

Executive Continuity and Long-Term Strategy

Gilbane’s existing leadership structure is expected to maintain continuity across its construction and development operations following Broderick’s departure. The organisation has identified its established executive team and long-term ownership model as central elements of its future direction.

For construction industry stakeholders, the transition is relevant to the governance of a privately held business operating across multiple parts of the built environment. Maintaining leadership across construction, development and finance provides organisational continuity as Gilbane pursues its stated strategy and manages client relationships.

Broderick’s retirement is scheduled for the end of 2026, with the company’s current operating executives remaining in their respective roles.
