A new athletic facility at Communication & Media Arts High School in Detroit has been completed, adding competition-grade sports infrastructure and expanded event capacity to the campus. Gilbane Building partnered with Detroit Public Schools Community District on the project, which represents the first completed phase of the school’s broader campus transformation.
The athletic complex features an eight-lane track and field built to national competition standards. A turf field provides space for football, soccer and lacrosse, allowing the facility to accommodate multiple sports.
The project also includes bleacher seating for more than 1,100 spectators, a press box, stadium lighting, dedicated field event areas and a new scoreboard.
The upgraded infrastructure enables Communication & Media Arts High School to host regional track competitions and larger athletic events in addition to regular school sports activities.
The athletic complex is part of Detroit Public Schools Community District’s Facility Master Plan and serves as the first completed stage of Communication & Media Arts High School’s campus transformation.
The facility is also designed for community activities and gatherings, expanding the use of the campus beyond school athletics.
A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held Oct. 6 in Detroit to mark completion of the project. Students, families, alumni, district leaders and community partners attended the event.
The project adds specialized athletic infrastructure and spectator facilities to a Detroit public school campus while advancing a broader facilities improvement program. For school districts and construction stakeholders, the development illustrates the integration of multipurpose sports facilities into larger campus modernization efforts.
