Graham Begins Construction on 480-Home Edmonds Community Hub in Burnaby

Construction has begun on a major mixed-use development in Burnaby’s Edmonds neighbourhood, where Gracorp and its partners are developing a 380,000-square-foot community hub combining rental housing with cultural and social-service facilities. Graham Construction is serving as the construction partner, with completion expected in fall 2030.

The project reached a construction milestone following a September 18 groundbreaking event hosted by Gracorp. The development is supported through BC Builds funding and involves the Province of British Columbia, the City of Burnaby, The Neighbourhood Church and Graham Construction.

50-Story Tower Adds 480 Rental Homes

Located at 7135 Walker Avenue and 7244 Arcola Street, the development will feature a 50-story purpose-built rental tower alongside a six-story community hub. The residential component will provide 480 rental homes, including 384 market-rate units and 96 non-market units.

Resident amenity spaces will be provided at the ground level and on the uppermost floor. The project is designed by MCMP Architects and incorporates elements inspired by the architectural character of the historic 1912 Edmonds Baptist Church.

The development expands Burnaby’s rental housing supply while integrating residential uses with community-oriented facilities.

Community Hub Adds Cultural and Social Facilities

The six-story community hub will include an auditorium, food bank and spaces for arts and performances. These facilities are intended to support community gatherings, cultural programming and social services within the Edmonds neighbourhood.

The project brings together housing, community services and neighbourhood amenities in a single development. Its public-private-community partnership model also combines government funding with private development and community participation.

The Edmonds Community Hub demonstrates how mixed-use construction can combine new rental housing with community infrastructure. With construction now underway, the project will add 480 homes and dedicated community facilities to Burnaby while preserving a connection to the area's historic character.
