Highlights

  • Graham received two Silver Awards at the 2026 VRCA Awards of Excellence.
  • The Vancouver Transit Centre Skybridge Rehabilitation was recognized in the tenant improvement category.
  • The OMD Tank Farm project was honored for general contractor services.
  • Both projects required construction in active operating environments.
  • The awards recognize project delivery, coordination and construction execution in British Columbia.

Two Graham projects have received Silver Awards at the 2026 Vancouver Regional Construction Association Awards of Excellence, recognizing construction work completed within active transportation and industrial operating environments in British Columbia.

Transit Centre Rehabilitation Maintained Bus Operations

The Vancouver Transit Centre Skybridge Rehabilitation received a Silver Award in the General Contractor – Tenant Improvement – Up to $10 Million category. The skybridge connects the employee parking area with the main building at South Vancouver Transit Centre, serving more than 1,400 TransLink and Coast Mountain Bus Company employees.

Graham's scope included removal of the existing walkway, refinishing the existing hollow structural section steel and installing a suspended concrete slab.

Maintaining transit operations presented a significant construction constraint. Bus movements and high-voltage trolley wires remained active below the work area throughout the project.

To separate construction activities from the operating transit infrastructure, the project team installed a fully enclosed protective work platform beneath the skybridge. The platform provided support for the new concrete work while establishing a physical barrier between construction and the electrical systems below.

The approach allowed transit operations to continue without shutdowns or interruptions.

Tank Farm Expansion Required Operational Coordination

The OMD Tank Farm Project – General Contractor Services also earned a Silver Award. The work expanded storage capacity at the facility while BC Hydro's oil processing operations continued.

Construction within the active facility required detailed sequencing and coordination to limit disruptions to ongoing processing activities. Project activities were adjusted to accommodate site conditions and operational requirements while maintaining construction and safety controls.

The two recognized projects demonstrate different applications of construction management within facilities that could not simply be taken offline during the work.

Why It Matters

The awards highlight the project delivery challenges associated with construction in active operating environments. For owners and contractors, both projects demonstrate the importance of sequencing, temporary protection measures and coordination when construction must proceed alongside ongoing transportation or industrial operations.

Gold Award winners for the 2026 VRCA Awards of Excellence are scheduled to be announced at the awards gala on Oct. 16, 2026.
