The addition of an executive with extensive engineering and infrastructure experience gives Granite additional expertise in project delivery, corporate governance and strategic planning as the U.S. infrastructure market continues to evolve. Granite Construction Inc. appointed George L. Nash Jr. to its Board of Directors, effective Aug. 5.
Nash most recently served as chief executive officer of the North America region of Atkins, now AtkinsRéalis. During his tenure, he oversaw operations spanning infrastructure, transportation, environmental, water, defense and energy markets.
His career also includes senior leadership positions at AECOM and URS Corp. At AECOM, Nash served as president of the Energy, Industrial and Infrastructure Construction division following the company's acquisition of URS.
Earlier at URS, he served as chief operating officer and later president of the company's global Energy and Construction division, with responsibility for business units serving power, industrial, infrastructure, environmental and energy markets.
Nash has led large engineering and construction organizations through expansion, mergers and acquisitions, and operational integration. His background includes responsibilities involving strategic planning, risk management, capital allocation and organizational growth.
Nash began his career in engineering and power and later moved into executive positions across global engineering and construction organizations. He is a registered professional engineer in Massachusetts and earned a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Brown University.
For Granite, the appointment adds board-level experience spanning civil infrastructure, engineering, construction and project management. That combination is relevant to a diversified contractor operating across transportation, water, specialty and federal construction markets, as well as construction materials.
