Workforce policies that accommodate military service can help construction employers retain skilled employees while supporting personnel with National Guard and Reserve obligations. Granite Guam has received the 2025 Pro Patria Award, recognizing its support for employees serving in the National Guard and Reserve.
The Pro Patria Award is presented through the Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, a U.S. Department of Defense program. Granite Guam received the award during an ESGR ceremony on Aug. 4, 2026.
Marjune Padigos, construction manager, accepted the award on behalf of Granite Guam. Staff Sgt. Brian Barcinas of the Guam Air National Guard nominated the organization for its support of service members.
The recognition covers employer practices that assist military personnel, including workplace flexibility, military leave accommodations and support for service members and their families.
Granite Guam has worked with military and federal agencies in the region while maintaining employment support for workers who serve in the National Guard and Reserve.
The award ceremony included representatives from ESGR, the Guam National Guard, military leadership and community organizations. Granite Guam was recognized alongside other organizations for contributions supporting service members and military readiness.
For construction companies, employees who balance civilian construction careers with military responsibilities can require workforce planning that accounts for military leave and scheduling needs. Employer policies that support service obligations can also help maintain continuity for skilled workers while meeting project staffing requirements.
Granite Guam’s recognition illustrates the intersection between construction workforce management, employee retention and support for National Guard and Reserve personnel.
