Roadway capacity and pedestrian infrastructure improvements are central to the next phase of work on State Route 202 in Woodinville, Washington. Granite has secured a contract valued at approximately $16 million from the city to widen a section of the corridor and replace an existing railroad trestle with a new pedestrian bridge.
The work will cover SR 202, also known as 131st Avenue NE, between Northeast 177th Street and Northeast 175th Street. The roadway will expand from five lanes to eight, increasing capacity along the designated stretch.
The bridge replacement will introduce an arched, flared post-tensioned box-girder structure intended to serve as a pedestrian crossing and a gateway feature for the city.
The contract combines roadway widening with structural construction, earthwork, underground utilities, paving and materials supply. The pedestrian bridge's post-tensioned box-girder design will form a key component of the project.
Granite's Smith Island asphalt plant and Granite Falls aggregate facility are scheduled to provide materials for the work. Using its own regional materials operations alongside construction capabilities will support delivery across the project's paving and civil works requirements.
The contract is expected to be included in Granite's fourth-quarter 2026 construction awards and backlog reporting.
Construction is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of 2026, with completion anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2027. The work will be delivered for the City of Woodinville as part of the municipality's ongoing roadway and pedestrian infrastructure improvements.
The combined scope requires coordination among road widening, underground utility work, paving and bridge construction activities. Managing these work areas within a defined corridor will be an important part of delivering the improvements within the planned schedule.
The SR 202 project combines highway capacity improvements with a specialised pedestrian bridge, creating opportunities for contractors with experience across civil construction, structural work and paving. The use of Granite's asphalt and aggregate facilities also demonstrates the role of integrated materials supply in regional infrastructure delivery.
For public owners, the project will provide an expanded roadway section and a replacement pedestrian crossing. Its scheduled completion in late 2027 will mark the next milestone in improving transportation infrastructure in Woodinville.
