IDAHO FALLS, Idaho (KIFI) — The Art Museum of Eastern Idaho (TAM) is officially moving forward with a transformational expansion project after receiving a significant grant from the CHC Foundation, marking an important step toward building a new education center that will increase access to arts programming across the region.

The CHC Foundation, a long-time supporter of the local arts community, awarded the grant as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural resources for residents of eastern Idaho.

"The foundation has supported TAM for decades, and we are proud to honor that relationship with the museum’s current CHC Gallery. Their latest investment is a meaningful vote of confidence in TAM’s expansion and the future of the arts in Eastern Idaho," TAM stated in a news release.

Expanding Creative Opportunities

The new education center will add much-needed classrooms, studio spaces, and additional gallery capacity—allowing TAM to host more workshops, student art shows, and specialized learning programs throughout the year. The expansion is designed to serve all ages, from youth art education to senior creative wellness programs, as museum leaders push to make arts participation more accessible and inclusive.

Museum officials say the upgrades will help accommodate rising demand for hands-on art instruction in the community, particularly after a surge in program enrollment over the past several years.

Backed by a Trusted Community Partner

The CHC Foundation has provided financial support to TAM for more than 20 years. Its continued investment reinforces the broader community belief that creativity, culture, and education are vital components of Idaho Falls’ growth and identity.

Museum director Alexa Stanger said the grant represents more than just financial progress — it reflects trust in the long-term value of the facility.

She emphasized that this project will not only modernize the museum’s existing infrastructure but also elevate opportunities for local artists, students, and families to engage with the arts more deeply.

A Vision Moving Closer to Reality

Construction is expected to begin with initial site preparation and phased buildout, pending completion of additional fundraising efforts. TAM continues to pursue local philanthropic support, private contributions, and additional grants to fully realize its expansion plans.

The museum believes the education center will become a major cultural asset for Idaho Falls — creating a more vibrant regional arts scene and offering a welcoming space where creativity can thrive.

More detailed timelines and public engagement opportunities are expected to be announced as the project advances.
