Hahn Hall South Entrance to Close Temporarily for Renovation Work Starting August 11
Virginia Tech’s Facilities Department has announced that the south exterior doors of Hahn Hall South will be temporarily unavailable from Monday, August 11, through Tuesday, August 12, due to scheduled renovation activity aimed at improving access and infrastructure.

The project is part of a broader effort to maintain and modernize aging facilities across campus, enhancing both safety and accessibility.
During the closure, building occupants and visitors will still be able to access Hahn Hall South via alternate, accessible entrances. Specifically, entry points adjacent to West Campus Drive and through the north side of Robeson Hall will remain open and operational.
“Building occupants may notice general construction noises and increased contractor presence,” university officials stated in the advisory.
In addition to cosmetic improvements, the work is expected to include door hardware upgrades, improved weatherproofing, and potentially ADA compliance enhancements. While construction is active, those in and around the building are advised to take caution and allow for extra travel time to and from classrooms or laboratories.

The renovations are also intended to support Virginia Tech’s commitment to sustainable infrastructure by reducing energy loss through aging or poorly sealed entrances.
The university acknowledges the temporary inconvenience and appreciates the patience of students, faculty, and staff during the project.
Faculty and researchers who anticipate delivery or logistical issues related to the door closure should contact Facilities in advance to coordinate alternate arrangements.
Anyone with questions or in need of further guidance is encouraged to email vtrepair@vt.edu for assistance.
Why It Matters
Hahn Hall South is home to several critical academic departments and research labs. Ensuring the facility remains accessible and up to modern standards is essential to maintaining the quality of education and research output. Short-term inconveniences like this renovation help ensure long-term reliability and safety.
