HARTFORD — Summer renovation work at Hartford Union High School (HUHS) is progressing on schedule, with major improvements taking shape across campus to modernize facilities for students, staff, and the community.

Visible changes are underway along Monroe Avenue, where the school’s new parking lot is starting to take form. “Crews are installing concrete borders and preparing for asphalt paving, scheduled for next week,” according to a recent statement from HUHS. The new lot will improve traffic flow and access, while new sidewalks and ramps are already being poured to enhance safety and accessibility for everyone who visits campus. Landscaping work is expected to begin the week of August 11.
Interior Upgrades Moving Forward
Inside the school building, several modernization projects are also on track. Crews are busy renovating the upstairs restrooms, adding new tile and finishing upgrades. LED lighting work is nearly complete at 85% finished, and the new ceiling grid is now 90% installed, providing brighter, more energy-efficient spaces for students and staff this fall.
In the pool area, demolition work is wrapping up, clearing the way for upgraded finishes and improved amenities that will benefit HUHS’s aquatic programs and community use for years to come.

Athletic Facilities: Looking Ahead
The district is also moving forward with plans to enhance athletic facilities. Coaches and administrators have been touring neighboring high schools to compare options for new turf fields, ensuring that Hartford Union High School chooses a playing surface that prioritizes safety, performance, and long-term durability for student-athletes.
Final design plans and bidding for the turf project are expected to happen in September. The upgraded field will support football, soccer, and other outdoor sports, expanding the school’s ability to host competitions and community events.
