ENR West has officially named its 2025 Specialty Contractors of the Year—with San Diego-based Helix Electric receiving honors for the California region and Portland-based Harder Mechanical Contractors taking the title for the Pacific Northwest.
The annual recognition is selected by ENR’s regional editors, who evaluate firms based on total regional construction revenue, along with breakdowns by state, specialty, and discipline, offering a comprehensive look at contractor performance and market influence.
Helix Electric earned the title for California, Nevada, and Hawaii, marking a milestone year as the company celebrates its 40th anniversary. Known for its design-build expertise and work on highly complex electrical infrastructure, Helix reported $727 million in regional revenue last year.
The firm continues to be a go-to contractor in critical sectors such as water treatment, data centers, and renewable energy. A recent major achievement includes the installation of a prefabricated power building at the Orinda Water Treatment Plant, part of a $267 million partnership project with East Bay Municipal Utility District (EBMUD) and Flatiron Construction.
Beyond California, Helix is actively delivering mission-critical power infrastructure in Las Vegas and Reno, reinforcing its role as a key electrical partner in Western utility and technology-driven developments.
Harder Mechanical Contractors—a nearly 90-year fixture of the Pacific Northwest construction market—has been named ENR West’s Northwest Specialty Contractor of the Year, covering Washington, Oregon, and Alaska.
The firm closed last year at over $744 million in revenue, driven by its strong positioning in advanced technology markets, including semiconductor facilities and data centers, both of which have seen explosive demand across the region.
One standout project is a $80 million data center now under construction in Oregon. Harder also contributed to major aviation infrastructure upgrades, including the Portland International Airport Baggage Conveyors upgrade and Terminal Core Redevelopment.
Both companies will be featured in ENR West’s December 15 issue, alongside the 2025 Top Specialty Contractor rankings, offering deeper insight into how these firms are navigating—and shaping—the future of specialty construction in the Western U.S.
