Expanding electric vehicle infrastructure continues to drive construction activity as public agencies and private partners invest in transportation modernization. Hensel Phelps has completed a new EV charging station at Kapalua Airport in Lahaina, contributing to Hawaii's statewide effort to increase access to fast-charging infrastructure.
The completed installation includes four 150-kilowatt direct current fast chargers designed to serve both residents and visitors using electric vehicles on Maui.
The charging station officially opened on May 13, 2026, becoming the third National Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (NEVI) charging location operating in Hawaii.
The project was delivered for Sustainability Partners as part of broader investments supporting cleaner transportation infrastructure throughout the state.
The Lahaina project is one component of a multi-site design-build program that includes EV charging stations, microgrid systems and infrastructure improvements at Hawaii Department of Transportation airport and highway facilities.
The statewide initiative spans Maui, Oahu, Kauai and Hawaii Island, with additional work extending to Molokai and Lanai.
Hensel Phelps delivered the project in partnership with Group 70, Stantec and Wasa Electrical Services through a design-build delivery approach intended to streamline coordination and project execution.
