The expansion of domestic rare earth magnet manufacturing is driving new industrial development in North Texas, where MP Materials has established manufacturing operations and is building additional production capacity. The company's presence in the region includes an operating facility in Fort Worth's Alliance area and a planned 1.2 million-square-foot campus in Northlake.
The development involves industrial manufacturing space, specialized production equipment and a growing workforce supporting the production of rare earth magnets.
MP Materials initially established a smaller warehouse operation in Roanoke before selecting a larger site at 13840 Independence Parkway in Fort Worth for its primary magnet manufacturing facility.
The Fort Worth operation processes material from MP Materials' Mountain Pass, California, mine into neodymium-praseodymium oxide, metal and eventually finished magnet components. The facility currently employs more than 350 people, with staffing expected to increase as production expands.
The company has also begun supplying magnets to General Motors and plans to begin commercial shipments later in 2026. Additional manufacturing capacity is being developed for an agreement with Apple valued at $500 million.
MP Materials is also developing a 1.2 million-square-foot campus known as 10X approximately 10 miles from the Fort Worth facility in Northlake.
The campus is intended to expand production capacity under a partnership involving the U.S. Department of Defense. The development adds another major industrial construction project to the North Texas manufacturing pipeline.
The broader Alliance development encompasses approximately 27,000 acres and includes hundreds of companies, creating an established industrial and logistics base around MP Materials' operations.
MP Materials' expansion illustrates the construction requirements associated with bringing advanced manufacturing and critical-material production into the U.S. market. The Fort Worth and Northlake developments combine large-scale industrial facilities with specialized manufacturing infrastructure, creating demand for construction, equipment installation and supporting site infrastructure.
