Expanding airport infrastructure remains a priority for regional aviation facilities experiencing increased aircraft activity and private aviation demand. Hoar Construction has completed a taxilane expansion at San Angelo Regional Airport in Texas, delivering new airfield infrastructure designed to improve access to private hangars while supporting future airport growth.
Construction began in October 2025, with Hoar serving as the project's general contractor.
The work included demolition of existing pavement, construction of new taxilane sections, asphalt paving, earthwork, drainage improvements, utility additions and relocations, installation of new vehicle access gates, and relocation of the airport's security fencing.
A significant component of the project involved modifications to existing Federal Aviation Administration communications infrastructure. Because the systems remained active throughout construction, the work required testing, identification, and relocation under FAA oversight while meeting federal security and operational requirements.
Regional specialty contractors participated in the project, including firms responsible for earthwork, paving, underground utilities, electrical systems, fencing, pavement markings, and landscaping.
Although the physical construction scope consisted primarily of civil infrastructure improvements, project execution required extensive coordination due to ongoing airport operations.
Hoar managed construction activities while maintaining aircraft movement, complying with airport security protocols, and coordinating with airport officials, the FAA, engineers, and other stakeholders. The project team conducted weekly Airport Operations Committee meetings and maintained daily communication to address construction activities, operational impacts, and project progress.
The completed taxilane extends airfield access and positions the airport to accommodate continued expansion of private aviation facilities.
The taxilane expansion marks Hoar Construction's first project completed directly for San Angelo Regional Airport. The relationship followed the contractor's earlier delivery of an approximately 8,800-square-foot aeronautical flight training facility at nearby Angelo State University.
Hoar also continues to expand its construction portfolio across West Texas, with ongoing healthcare projects that include renovations at Shannon River Crest Hospital and a planned four-story medical office building. The contractor previously completed a seven-story, approximately 140,000-square-foot patient bed tower expansion at Shannon Medical Center in 2024.
For airport owners, aviation authorities, and infrastructure contractors, the project demonstrates the operational planning required to deliver improvements within active airfield environments. Successfully coordinating construction around aircraft operations, federal oversight, and critical communications systems minimizes operational disruption while expanding airport capacity.
As regional airports continue investing in aviation infrastructure to accommodate business aviation growth and hangar development, similar airfield modernization projects are expected to remain an important segment of airport capital improvement programs.
