A new memorial at United Airlines’ Flight Training Center in Denver provides a permanent place to recognize those affected by the Sept. 11 attacks. Hyder Construction supported the project by installing original World Trade Center steel and completing the structural and site work required for the memorial.
The memorial project used original steel recovered from the World Trade Center, making material preservation a central part of the construction work.
Hyder Construction carefully cut and positioned the steel as part of the memorial structure. The work also included constructing foundations and supports needed to secure the historic material at the site.
Beyond the structural components, Hyder Construction coordinated installation of the memorial plaque and completed related site work surrounding the installation.
The Flight Training Center has a direct connection to United Airlines' history on Sept. 11. Captain Jason Dahl, who commanded United Flight 93, was based at the Denver facility as a standards captain.
The memorial was unveiled Sept. 11, 2026, on the 25th anniversary of the attacks.
Memorial construction projects involving recovered historic materials require careful coordination between structural work, preservation considerations and site development. The Denver project demonstrates how construction teams can incorporate significant artifacts into permanent public or institutional installations while creating spaces for remembrance and reflection.
