In the heart of Treasure Valley, an Idaho-based company is pushing the boundaries of construction management by integrating drone technology into the everyday workflow of builders and contractors. Osprey BP, a family-run business rooted in the region, is leading the charge with advanced 3D modeling and digital site analysis that’s streamlining construction like never before.
Josh Heaton, an Operations Specialist at Osprey BP and a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps, brings a unique background to the business. His military experience with drones for intelligence-gathering has evolved into an entrepreneurial mission—helping Idaho's construction industry build smarter.
"The site supervisor or site superintendent can make sure that all his subcontractors know where the project stands. So you don't have that people coming out, seeing if they're ready to come and do their part of the work. It's all there digitally for them," Heaton explained.

Using drones outfitted with sophisticated imaging systems, Osprey BP creates high-resolution digital twins of active construction sites. These 3D models provide centimeter-level accuracy and allow contractors to monitor progress with exceptional detail—helping ensure projects remain on time and within budget.
Heaton traces his passion for drone technology back to his time in the Marines. After returning home, he pursued formal training at the College of Western Idaho's drone program, further equipping him for his current role.
"I knew that the future of drones was growing and I've been seeing a consistent change since 2011 when I really started working with them in the Marine Corps and the progression that it was going, I knew that there was going to be a future," Heaton said.
Osprey BP offers more than just mapping. One of its standout services includes the creation of 360-degree virtual walkthroughs of construction sites. This capability enables remote inspections and documentation of every stage of a project, creating an invaluable digital archive.
"So, you know, they don't have to cut open a wall to figure out what's behind it. Or if there is an error, they can easily go through and find out what's going on," Heaton said.
The company’s work is gaining recognition across Idaho for helping contractors like Perryman Construction stay ahead of schedule and resolve site issues before they become costly delays.
As a third-generation member of the Osprey BP team, Heaton takes pride in contributing to both the company and the region’s growing development.
"I'm from Boise and I've loved living here and I love seeing the changes that are being made... being a part of that means a lot. It's really special working with companies like Perryman Construction and seeing what beautiful homes and what they can create and being part of that from beginning to the end," Heaton shared.
With drone technology continuing to evolve, Osprey BP is setting a high standard for innovation in Idaho’s construction scene—one digital twin at a time.
