POCATELLO — The construction of Idaho Power's new $6.5 million operations center, located near downtown Pocatello, is nearing completion, with the official opening planned for February 2025.
The current facility, built in 1954 on East Benton Street, has undergone two remodels over the years but no longer meets the company's growing needs.
Jordyn Neerdaels, communications specialist for Idaho Power, shared that the decision to build a new center was driven by the challenges of accommodating staff and addressing safety and accessibility concerns, including the difficulty of meeting Americans with Disabilities Act standards.
“The current facility was no longer adequate for our operations,” Neerdaels explained. “After evaluating several options, including another major renovation, we determined that constructing a new building was the most financially responsible solution for the long-term needs of our employees, contractors and customers. The new facility is designed to better serve both our team and our customers. It will feature larger, safer spaces for customers to access services and meet with our staff, as well as improved accommodation for contractors and visitors. Our Idaho Power energy advisers, agricultural representatives and economic and community development advisers will now have the space and resources to comfortably and effectively meet with customers and better serve the community.”
The new center, located next to the existing facility, is almost complete. Neerdaels expects the building to be substantially finished by the end of January 2025, with the team moving in by February.
Once the new operations center is operational, the old building will no longer be used, though plans for its future are still under review.
“We’re excited to continue serving the Pocatello community from a space that reflects our dedication to delivering reliable service and fostering strong customer relationships,” Neerdaels added.
