Infinium has officially begun construction on Project Roadrunner, a landmark e-fuels production facility located in Reeves County, Texas, near the city of Pecos. The plant, once completed, is expected to become the largest e-fuels production site in the world, marking a major step forward in the decarbonization of the aviation and transportation sectors.
The facility will produce approximately 23,000 tonnes per year of sustainable aviation fuel (eSAF), along with a variety of other synthetic fuels. Infinium’s e-fuels are created by combining waste carbon dioxide (CO₂) with green hydrogen, offering a cleaner alternative to traditional petroleum-based products. These fuels are compatible with existing infrastructure, enabling immediate use in current aircraft fleets and industrial operations.

The Roadrunner project is backed by significant funding from major climate technology investors, including Brookfield Asset Management and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, the climate-focused investment initiative founded by Bill Gates. This financial support underscores the project’s potential to scale up sustainable energy solutions globally.
"Infinium reportedly became the first company in 2023 to produce and distribute commercial volumes of e-fuels in the US and Europe from its Project Pathfinder facility in Corpus Christi, Texas."
Project Roadrunner has reached financial close, with commercial agreements strategically structured to attract the capital and debt financing necessary to drive growth in the e-fuels market. According to Infinium, the facility represents not only a commitment to carbon reduction but also a major economic investment in West Texas, with the potential to create hundreds of skilled jobs across construction, logistics, and operations.
The project is notable for its integration of cutting-edge renewable energy technology. The facility will be powered in part by 150 megawatts of new wind generation secured through a subsidiary of NextEra Energy Resources. Additionally, the plant will include a 100MW HYPRPlant from Electric Hydrogen, which will produce green hydrogen on-site to be used in the creation of eSAF and support future hydrogen-related energy opportunities.
“E-fuels are synthetic fuels that are produced using waste carbon dioxide (CO₂) and renewable energy, offering a sustainable alternative to conventional petroleum-based fuels.”

“This growth not only offers alternative low-carbon fuel options but also contributes to the diversification of the energy supply chain,” stated Infinium.
Once operational, Project Roadrunner will supply sustainable fuels to major aviation partners such as American Airlines and International Airlines Group (IAG), the parent company of British Airways and Aer Lingus. As part of its global distribution strategy, eSAF from the Texas facility will be exported to the United Kingdom to support the UK SAF Mandate, which requires that at least 10% of jet fuel used in the country’s flights be derived from sustainable sources by 2030.
The commercial launch of the Roadrunner facility is anticipated in 2027, and Infinium sees the site as a cornerstone of its long-term strategy to reduce emissions in hard-to-abate industries and accelerate the adoption of next-generation fuels worldwide.
