Airport owners face growing pressure to modernize terminal facilities while maintaining operations and preparing for increasing passenger demand. A new five-year program management contract in Knoxville will place Parsons in a central role overseeing improvements at McGhee Tyson Airport.
Parsons was selected by the Metropolitan Knoxville Airport Authority to provide program and construction management services for the McGhee Tyson Airport Terminal Area Development Plan in Knoxville, Tennessee. The award represents new work for Parsons and expands its aviation infrastructure portfolio.
The airport’s capital program will focus on terminal improvements, infrastructure modernization and capacity needs associated with passenger growth.
Parsons will provide centralized oversight covering project costs, schedules, stakeholder coordination, construction activities and compliance requirements associated with Federal Aviation Administration funding.
The program is expected to run for five years, giving the airport authority a dedicated management framework for coordinating multiple capital improvements and related project activities.
Parsons will use digital tools to support program management and construction oversight. Planned capabilities include cost and schedule management systems, executive dashboards, cloud-based document and construction management platforms, and data analytics for forecasting and performance monitoring.
The approach is intended to give project stakeholders greater visibility into program performance and support coordination across the airport’s capital improvement activities.
Parsons has provided planning, design, construction and program management services for more than 450 airports across 40 countries. Its aviation portfolio includes terminal, landside and airside infrastructure.
For airport owners, centralized program management can help coordinate multiple modernization activities while maintaining control over cost, schedule, compliance and stakeholder requirements.
The Knoxville contract also reflects continued investment in airport infrastructure as transportation agencies address aging facilities and capacity requirements. Parsons’ role will focus on program-level coordination as McGhee Tyson Airport advances its terminal development plans.
