Intermountain Park City Hospital Breaks Ground on Cancer Center, ED Expansion

Intermountain Park City Hospital Begins Construction on Cancer Center and Expanded Emergency Department
PARK CITY, Utah — June 23, 2025 — Intermountain Health has kicked off construction on a major healthcare expansion at its Park City Hospital, adding both a comprehensive cancer center and a significantly expanded emergency department (ED). The $X million investment reflects a growing demand for advanced medical services in the rapidly developing Wasatch Back region.

The project includes a 10,800-square-foot cancer center, which will deliver integrated oncology services under one roof. The facility will feature medical oncology exam spaces, 18 infusion bays, and a state-of-the-art linear accelerator, a high-precision machine that delivers targeted radiation therapy to treat various cancers.
In addition to the cancer center, the hospital's emergency department will expand by nearly 9,000 square feet. The renovation includes the addition of four new trauma bays, a modern imaging suite, and two surgical rooms dedicated to gastrointestinal procedures, significantly improving the hospital’s ability to handle both routine emergencies and specialized care.
The expansion is a response to increased patient volume and the need for closer-to-home care options for residents in Summit and Wasatch Counties, especially given the area's growing population and seasonal tourism spikes.
“This project will help meet the rising healthcare demands of the Park City community by bringing world-class cancer treatment and emergency services directly to our patients,” said an Intermountain Health spokesperson. “We are proud to be investing in infrastructure that will benefit local families for generations to come.”
The facility is expected to serve not just Park City but the broader region, reducing the need for patients to travel to Salt Lake City for critical cancer care or complex emergency treatment. Intermountain Health emphasized the importance of patient convenience, especially for those undergoing frequent treatments such as chemotherapy or radiation.
The new cancer center also aligns with Intermountain’s commitment to integrated care models. Patients will have access to a collaborative care team of oncologists, nurses, radiologists, and support staff working together in a single location to improve outcomes and enhance patient experience.
The ED expansion is equally significant, designed with flexibility and surge capacity in mind to accommodate trauma cases, seasonal sports injuries, and health emergencies common in high-altitude resort towns.
Community leaders, hospital staff, and representatives from Intermountain Health participated in a groundbreaking ceremony earlier this week. The expansion project is slated for completion by mid-2026.
This initiative is part of Intermountain Health’s broader mission to expand rural and suburban access to specialized care while investing in the latest medical technology and infrastructure.
