Irby Construction is advancing a transmission line project with Jacksonville Electric Authority (JEA) that will increase clearance over the St. Johns River, enabling larger ships to access the Port of Jacksonville while modernizing a key segment of the regional electric transmission network.
The project involves replacing six existing transmission towers spanning the Fulton Cut section of the St. Johns River. Upon completion, the transmission lines will be raised to approximately 375 feet above the water, significantly increasing navigational clearance for larger commercial vessels.
The infrastructure improvements are designed to accommodate continued growth at the Port of Jacksonville, one of the nation's major international trade gateways, while maintaining reliable electric transmission service across the river crossing.
Irby Construction is serving as the contractor on the project, drawing on its experience delivering utility transmission projects in challenging river crossing environments.
Increasing transmission line clearance is part of broader efforts to ensure critical utility infrastructure aligns with expanding maritime transportation requirements.
