KC Bier Co. Breaks Ground on Lenexa Biergarten

LENEXA, Kan. — Kansas City Bier Company has officially started construction on its long-awaited second location — an ambitious project in Lenexa that will bring an expansive slice of Bavaria to Johnson County.

Set to open near 98th Street and Ridgeview Road, the new site will mark a major expansion for the brewery, which first opened its doors in Kansas City’s Waldo neighborhood in 2014.

Since then, Kansas City Bier Company — known locally as KC Bier Co. — has grown from its cozy taproom and outdoor Biergarten to a beloved regional brand, distributing its German-style beers across all of Kansas and most of Missouri in kegs, cans and bottles.

The Lenexa project will take that experience to another level, with plans to build one of the largest authentic Bavarian-style Biergartens in the U.S. The two-acre site will include a spacious Bierhalle, a showcase brewery, event space, a covered patio, and an outdoor Biergarten that features a children’s play area, an amphitheater, and an off-leash dog park — making it a true community destination.

Beer for the new location will be freshly brewed on site, but the company confirmed that all beer destined for retail stores will continue to come from its original Waldo brewery.

Alongside its classic lineup of German lagers, visitors can expect a menu that pairs beer with hearty favorites. The new location will serve American dishes alongside authentic German fare, including schnitzel, rotisserie chicken, sausages, and street foods like Döner Kebab, Leberkäse, and fresh pretzels.

KC Bier Co. said the new project reflects its ongoing mission to bring authentic German brewing traditions to the Midwest while providing a family-friendly gathering place.

“We’re excited to expand the KC Bier Co. experience with a one-of-a-kind Biergarten that honors German culture and brings the community together,” a company spokesperson said.

Local beer lovers won’t have to wait too long to raise a stein in Lenexa — the new Biergarten is expected to open in late spring 2026, just in time for warm weather and outdoor celebrations.
