Kearney Power Line Now Energized After Construction Completion

KEARNEY, Neb. — Construction of the new transmission line under the Kearney Power Project is officially complete, and the infrastructure is now energized, marking a significant milestone in efforts to improve electrical capacity and service in the region.

The project, first introduced in November 2024, underwent a comprehensive process that spanned three and a half years. It included extensive public engagement, easement negotiations with landowners, and large-scale construction efforts. The transmission line was successfully energized on June 6, delivering on its promise to support Kearney’s growing energy demands.

The completion of the project enhances the transmission system’s capacity and ensures greater reliability and resilience in local energy services.

“We appreciate the cooperation of the landowners and the public throughout this entire process,” said Paul Brune, the NPPD Project Manager. “As the Kearney area’s energy needs continue to grow, this project will help ensure reliable energy service to the area for years to come.”

Now that the line is operational, crews are focusing on post-construction tasks such as clearing construction materials and equipment from staging yards and restoring properties impacted during the build phase. Full restoration is expected to return affected areas to their original state.

The Kearney Power Project is one of several infrastructure upgrades being managed by the Nebraska Public Power District (NPPD). Detailed updates and additional project information are available at nppd.com under the “current projects” section.

The transmission line is expected to play a vital role in long-term grid stability and in accommodating the increasing energy demands driven by residential growth and industrial expansion in the Kearney region.
