The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet (KYTC) is offering three scholarship programs designed to support students pursuing degrees that directly align with the agency’s long-term workforce needs. The scholarships are available to current and incoming students enrolled at select Kentucky universities and community colleges.

Scholarship Programs and Eligible Institutions

“Kentucky’s future depends on our kids and the talent we invest in today,” said Gov. Andy Beshear. “These scholarships educate the next generation that will help make our New Kentucky Home the best place in the nation to build the American Dream. This opportunity will allow recipients to turn their education into meaningful careers serving the communities they call home.”

Civil Engineering Scholarships Support Four-Year Degrees

The Civil Engineering Scholarship targets students pursuing four-year engineering degrees at Murray State University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville and Western Kentucky University. Each year, between 10 and 20 new students are selected for the program.

Recipients may receive up to $59,200 in total financial support, with awards ranging from $7,200 to $7,600 per semester, depending on enrollment and program requirements.

KYTC also continues to offer the Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship, established in 2009 through a partnership with the Kentucky Community and Technical College System. This program supports students enrolled at Big Sandy Community & Technical College in Prestonsburg, where participants work toward an associate degree in civil engineering technology.

Up to 10 students may be awarded scholarships under this program, with each recipient receiving $3,700 per semester to help cover educational costs.

In addition, the Construction Management Scholarship is available to students pursuing four-year construction management degrees at Eastern Kentucky University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, Northern Kentucky University and Western Kentucky University. While a limited number of awards will be issued, selected students may receive up to $59,200, matching the financial structure of the civil engineering scholarship.

Career Pathways and Post-Graduation Commitments

All three scholarship programs include summer employment opportunities with KYTC, as well as job placement following graduation. Scholarship recipients agree to work for the agency for one year for each year they receive financial assistance.

According to KYTC, former scholarship recipients have gone on to hold senior leadership roles within the cabinet, including deputy secretary positions, state highway engineer roles, chief district engineer posts and branch management positions.

Students selected for the scholarships will be notified in April. Additional information and application materials are available through KYTC’s education portal or by contacting the agency directly.
